BrightFarms Greenhouses

Illinois, Texas, Georgia

The three newest BrightFarms locations all “got growing” with the help of Ullman Electric’s “Parts and Smarts.” The massive greenhouse design/build projects employed the Ullman Electric National Accounts team as procurement specialists for Switchgear and Distribution equipment, and to provide expertise and guidance.

The scale of the greenhouses is no less than impressive. In fact, the addition of the company’s three new hydroponics grow facilities increases their growing capability to 150 million pounds of leafy greens per year. These massive operations include:

  • Yorkville, IL.
This “flagship” regional site serves the produce needs of Chicagoland, and boasts 460,000 square feet powered by five 4000A switchboards . Ullman Electric also provided the MV ComEd Metering cabinet and a 6-section main Service Entrance Gear. Six 2500kVA pad-mounted transformers were delivered to the project site to provide power to both general and critical systems in the plant.
  • Lorena, TX.
Like the old saying goes… everything is bigger in Texas. This greenhouse is no exception. The site consists of and 8.5 acres site, plus 90,00 square foot head house operation. The site is set up using three 4000A switchboards and two 3000A switchboards.
  • Macon, GA.
Last (but not least) the complex in Georgia is designed with six 4000A and 3000A switchboards. These run Phase 1 hydroponic greenhouse complex, visitors center, and head house.

Ullman Electric National Accounts provided:

  • Electrical design including stamped (in the state of each project) design drawings, permitting, permitting responses, and resulting design modifications.
  • Cost-conscious design and delivery-conscious design to improve the construction costs and lead times.
  • Main Service & Power Distribution Design
  • Lighting & power plans, site lighting design & photometric plan
  • Generator Design
  • Low voltage and security design in coordination with BrightFarms IT team
  • Electrical power requirements review for:
    Irrigation / Fertigation System
    – Water Well Pumps
    – Water Recycling / Water Treatment Systems
    – ProMach Automation Systems
  • Procurement of long-lead project items including Switchgear, Transfer Switches, and Transformers.
